They started to show up in a few seed catalogs in the early 1900's and then kind of disappeared until the mid-1990's. Very productive plants producing many rose to purple colored tomatoes. These are Beefsteak type tomatoes which have deep-red colored flesh and dark shoulders. The fruits average about 10-12 oz but can grow to 1 pound. The vines are thick and sturdy with lots of leaves to shade the tomatoes. These can be grown in the garden or in patio containers. Medium water and a little organic fertilizer if needed.
